Nearly 70% of California’s 440,000 manicurists are Vietnamese, most of whom are refugees, immigrant women, and low-wage workers—the communities that were heavily impacted by the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Manicurists across the state are navigating the current financial crisis without access to health care, paid sick leave, or job security. Many workers who cannot afford to lose a day’s pay have lost their jobs, or are barely making ends meet with the sharp decline of clientele frequenting their salons.
Our communities need us now more than ever.
