The 2nd Annual Marco Antonio Firebaugh California-MexicoDreamers Fund Drive


The California-Mexico Studies Center (CMSC)has successfully provided the unique opportunity to study abroad in Mexico toover 160 Dreamers since 2014, through the CMSC’s California-Mexico Dreamers StudyAbroad Program.


However, due to the termination of DACA, theCMSC will not be able to continue the program, aborting the applications of 75 Dreamersthat were planning to return to Mexico with our Winter 2017 program. 

Notwithstanding this set back, the CMSC willcontinue its mission and the following projects already in motion, through thefunds raised by our 2nd Annual Marco A. Firebaugh California-MexicoDreamers Fund Drive: 

·     Continue to research and advocate for Dreamerson both sides of the border, and the plight of 800,000+ U.S.-citizen childrenexiled in Mexico and Central America, due to the deportation of theirundocumented parents;

·     Publish a book with our Dreamers’ humanstories and testimonies after studying abroad through our California-Mexico Dreamers Study Abroad Program;

·     Produce a full-length documentary on the California-Mexico Dreamers Study AbroadProgram’s 3-year history and its impact upon over 160 participants;

·     Produce a play to be staged at CSULB inmid-February 2018, and planned to be toured in the U.S. and Mexico.

The CMSC, in collaboration with theLos AngelesTheater Center (LATC), Las Cafeteras, Restaurant Casa Fina, and Ernie G., present "AmericanDreamers: An evening of performance, music, and comedy”, to launchthe  2nd Annual Marco A. Firebaugh California-Mexico Dreamers FundDrive, raise funds for the CMSC’s 2018 programs, and to celebrate Marco’s 51st birthday on Oct. 13, 2017 at the LATC

The event will feature comedy by Ernie G. asthe MC, and solo performances by músico RaulPacheco (Ozomatli), Justino Mora (co-founder of Undocumedia),Josefina Lopez (Casa0101 Theater and Casa Fina Restaurant), film director and rockero Sergio Arau, actress YareliArizmendi, visual artist Gregorio Luke, dancer Isis Avalos, and a specialperformance by the Susie Hansen Latin Jazz Band

The goal of the 2nd Annual MarcoA. Firebaugh California-Mexico Dreamers Fund Drive is $50,000 to be raised fromSeptember 1 through December 31, 2017.  

The California-Mexico Studies Center isa 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, whose mission is to research, develop,promote, and establish policies and programs between higher educationalinstitutions and cultural organizations that will enhance the teaching,mobility and exchange of faculty, students, and professionals betweenCalifornia and the U.S. with Mexico and other nations in the Western Hemisphere.

  2. This contribution is made from my own funds or the funds of an authorizing corporation or other entity, and the funds are not being provided by any other person or entity.
