Caltrans Whistleblower

Introduction: Senator John Laird

In this Zoom interview, March 19 7-8pm, former Caltrans Deputy Director Jeanie Ward-Waller will discuss the current statewide advocacy movement to stop highway expansion and hold Caltrans accountable to follow state climate, safety, and social justice goals.

The Campaign for Sustainable Transportation, along with Sierra Club, won our lawsuit against Caltrans in 2022. The Court invalidated the EIR to double the size of Highway 1 from Santa Cruz to Freedom Blvd.

Now Caltrans wants to build a piece of that project—auxiliary lanes in Aptos—in spite of the EIR's estimate that auxiliary lanes won't deliver congestion relief beyond a few years.

With your help we are continuing our legal and political strategy to discontinue a failed highway expansion strategy and prioritize alternative transportation solutions.
