Ammar Campa-Najjar is a progressive Latino Arab American public affairs consultant who is challenging Republican incumbent Duncan Hunter again. Ammar was born and raised in San Diego, where he then served as Deputy Regional Field Director for President Obama’s re-election campaign. He worked in the Executive Office of President Obama, United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) and the U.S. Department of Labor. Ammar is a staunch advocate for unions, for federal investment in apprenticeship jobs and for programs for small businesses owned by minorities, women, immigrants and veterans. His platform includes reform to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), passing a clean Dream Act, investing in renewable energy, and overturning Citizens United.
In 2018, Ammar came within 3.4% (8,914 votes) of Hunter in 2018, and he is well-positioned to win in 2020 as Hunter and his wife will face trial for conspiracy, wire fraud and falsification of records in September 2019.
