Cortese is a Santa Clara County Supervisor with over 25 years of public service in Santa Clara County, City of San Jose, East Side Union High School District, and in regional transportation. He champions a long-held progressive agenda, including criminal justice reform, housing and homelessness, LGBTQ rights, and fighting climate change, and is deeply committed to listening to and serving diverse communities in the district. Cortese is also endorsed by the California League of Conservation Voters, civil rights leader Dolores Huerta, South Bay Labor Council, Silicon Valley Democratic Club, Democratic Activist Women Now (DAWN), and many local and regional elected officials.
Cortese won his primary with 34% of the vote and will face Democrat Ann Ravel, who won 22% of the vote. This will be a very competitive Dem-on-Dem general election, with local progressive groups supporting Cortese's candidacy.
