Friends, family, acquaintances, and community members:
I am running for Oakland City Council to address:
- Address skyrocketing levels of crime and gun violence by investing in community policing, gun violence prevention programs and a gun buyback program, and creating a Victim Support Fund.
- Build more housing and commercial spaces at all levels, but especially affordable housing to lower the cost of rent
- Create workforce, housing, mental health, and outreach programs for the homeless such as employing them to clean up the trash and plant trees, or utilizing public land near the Oakland port and airport to create villages with temporary emergency shelter and services like healthcare.
- Make Oakland the center of the nation’s clean energy transition, working with businesses and non-profits to bring blue collar and white collar jobs in clean energy and clean transportation to Oakland. Congress’ Inflation Reduction Act is bringing unprecedented investments in clean energy—let’s ensure Oakland is at the leading edge of this transformation.
- Celebrate and invest in what makes Oakland so special—its ethnic diversity and culture, with the creation of cultural districts in West Oakland, East Oakland, Little Saigon, and Fruitvale that create tax incentives for investments in local entrepreneurs in the arts, music, restaurant, and nightlife industries. In the same way New York had a Harlem Renaissance, we should have an Oakland Renaissance too.
- Demand more transparency, efficiency, and accountability from Oakland government and its contractors.
At this early stage your funding support is critical so I can hire a treasurer and a campaign manager, and demonstrate viability to other donors who do not know me. In prior years, the winning candidate raised and spent $250k. I need your help to get there!
