As of September 20, more than 750 migrants have been bussed from Texas to Chicago as part of Texas Governor Abbott's callous response to asylum seekers and migrants recently arriving into the United States. Alianza Americas member organizations in Chicago are working hard to accompany these migrants and respond rapidly to their needs; ensuring they have at least the basic resources to begin a new life in Chicago, get to their final destinations, and reunite with loved ones.
We are not sure how many more buses will arrive, but we are sure that solidarity and mutual aid is greater than hate! We will continue to help make sure our cities, like Chicago, are places where all communities thrive in dignity. Our member organizations and allies will be there to assist for as long as is needed. We can do this together! Will you make a donation today? No amount is too small.
One of the greatest challenges is being able to build and sustain a response to the evolving needs of every person sent to Chicago. Many who are arriving are in great need of housing, legal representation, social and psychological support, and material necessities such as clothing, hygiene products, and toys. We ask that you please support these migrants by donating now to ensure that their needs are being met in the city of Chicago.
