Republicans’ majority in the House of Representatives, which started at a slim five votes, has shrunk even further. They’re down to a 217-213 majority with the sudden resignation of Mike Gallagher, effective April 19. Speaker MAGA Mike Johnson will only be able to lose one vote as long as Democrats stick together. And any time two Republicans cross over, a vote that ends in a tie is deemed a failure – unlike the Senate, where the vice president breaks a tie.
Keep calm and carry on. If Democrats can’t get to a majority through resignations, they’ll get there in the 119th Congress, and the Chaos Caucus’ reign of unforced errors will end. Help us flip the House.
