Rep. Anthony Brindisi won a major upset in 2018 in an upstate New York district that voted for Trump by a higher percentage than any now held by a Democrat. The President won the district by 16 points in 2016 while Brindisi squeaked through by 51%-49% two years later. This year, of course, Trump will be on the top of the ticket.
The Cook Political Report wrote that the incumbent “may be the single most vulnerable House Democrat up for reelection in 2020.” Fortunately for him, Republicans may nominate former Rep. Claudia Tenney in an August primary, the incumbent that Brindisi ousted whose abrasive style alienated many moderate voters in the district.
Brindisi was born and raised in Utica, New York. He attended Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) and went on to study history at Siena College and attend Albany Law School. He was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 2011.
Brindisi serves on the House Armed Services Committee, where he has developed a moderate leadership position.
