Dr. Herb Conaway is running for reelection in the district he took over from Sen. Andy Kim (D-NJ) in 2024. He won his first election with 53% of the vote.

Dr. Conaway began his career serving in the U.S. Air Force as a Captain in the Medical Corps. During his four years of service, he worked as a general medical officer and advanced to assistant director of his primary care clinic.

After completing his internal medicine residency, Dr. Conaway practiced in primary care settings before transitioning to academia. He became a clinical professor at an inner-city community hospital, mentoring and teaching the next generation of physicians. Dr. Conaway also served as an Assemblyman in the New Jersey Legislature for 25 years where he served on the Health, Budget and Military and Veterans Affairs Committees.

On Council issues, Dr. Conaway co-sponsored the “No Funds for Iran War Act” which prohibits the use of taxpayer dollars for military action against Iran in the absence of an Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) or official declaration of war. Dr. Conaway was recently named to replace former Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, who was elected Governor of New Jersey, on the House Armed Services Committee. He serves on the Cyber and Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittees.
