The Trump administration disdains scientific analysis when it comes to dealing with the Covid-19, climate change, drilling for oil and so much more. When Nancy Goroff is elected to the House of Representatives, she will add immensely to the scientific capacity of Congress to confront a second term Trump or assist a first term Joe Biden.

She is a former Associate Provost and Chemistry Chair at Stony Brook University. Goroff serves on the National Advisory Board of the Union of Concerned Scientists and has been active at the national level with J Street. She has a PhD in Organic Chemistry from UCLA and a Bachelors in Chemistry from Harvard University.

Goroff is running in Suffolk County on Long Island against an incumbent Republican first elected in 2014 who won the seat in 2018 with only 51.5% of the vote. It is a district that President Trump captured by 12 points in 2016 but President Obama carried twice. The district comprises roughly equal numbers of Democrats, Republicans and independents.

Goroff’s fact-based approach leads her to oppose additional spending for deployment of national missile defense. She has studied how to make solar energy more affordable and attainable. She understands that Pentagon spending is too high, and she knows that the U.S. can and should make smart, effective reductions in military spending.

With these superb qualifications and views, Nancy Goroff deserves her place on the House Democratic red to blue list of seats most likely to flip to the Democrats and the support of Council for a Livable World.
