Jaime Harrison, the first African American chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party and a former floor leader for Rep. James Clyburn, is providing a stiff challenge to Senator Lindsey Graham.
Harrison is the son of a single teenage mom, and raised by his grandparents in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He overcame the challenges of grinding poverty with the help of teachers and mentors who believed in him.
From a mobile home to Yale University and Georgetown Law, Harrison believes making good on his debt of gratitude to South Carolina is a lifelong commitment, which is why he has proven to be the ideal candidate to take on Sen. Lindsey Graham.
Now, Harrison is running for U.S. Senate to fight for the opportunity that he received for all South Carolinians.
Harrison advocates a no first use of nuclear weapons policy and extension of the New START nuclear arms treaty, and supports the United States reentering the Iran nuclear agreement.
His opponent, Sen. Graham, opposed the Iran nuclear deal and has supported the Trump administration nuclear weapons policies that led to the termination of the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty and jeopardizes the New START treaty.
Harrison argues that “A rational, comprehensive foreign policy that values diplomacy, human rights and security is the only means to peace.”
South Carolina is changing and Jaime Harrison has an opening to become the next Senator from the state.
