Rep. Sara Jacobs was first elected to the House in 2020 with Council for a Livable World support. She won her seat 60-40% after a challenging jungle primary. Redistricting means that she will only retain about 50% of her current constituency in this reelection campaign.
Jacobs is the third youngest member in the 117th Congress. Prior to her election, Jacobs worked in policy positions with the State Department, UNICEF and the United Nations.
She sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Armed Services Committee. She has maintained a perfect voting record on Council issues and has already become an active leader on national security issues. Rep. Jacobs has introduced several bills and amendments to invest more in diplomacy and peacekeeping operations, promote human rights across the globe, and safeguard education and humanitarian aid in Afghanistan.
In 2021, she led floor debate on an amendment to reverse the unnecessary $24 billion increase to the National Defense Authorization Act, saying, "We need to have an honest conversation about the Pentagon budget -- and focus on what is achievable, what the real threats are, and what we actually need for our national security. For the last twenty years, we've been told we need more. But I think it's time to recognize that there are simply not military solutions to every problem."
