Rep. Sara Jacobs was first elected to the House in 2020, with the Council for a Livable World’s support. She won her seat 60-40% after a competitive jungle primary. Despite significant redistricting in 2022, Rep. Jacobs won handily, defeating Republican Stan Caplan 62-38% — again with Council for a Livable World’s support.

Rep. Jacobs sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Armed Services Committee. She has maintained a perfect voting record on Council issues and is a leader on foreign policy and national security issues. At 35 years old, Rep. Jacobs is the youngest member of Democratic House leadership.

Rep. Jacobs has led several bills and amendments to invest more in diplomacy, reassert Congress’ authority on war powers, and uphold and strengthen human rights. She believes that it is her responsibility “to make sure our foreign policy decisions contribute to a more peaceful world, not one mired in decades of unwinnable wars.”

Before serving in the House, Rep. Jacobs spent years working to address, minimize, and prevent conflict, instability, and inequality around the world. She worked at the State Department, UNICEF, the United Nations, and on Secretary Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

In 2024, Rep. Jacobs will face Bill Wells, mayor of El Cajon, California. Mr. Wells was a candidate for California’s 50th Congressional District in 2018 but did not advance to the general election. Mr. Wells filed to run for California’s 50th Congressional District again in 2020 but withdrew his candidacy.
