Rep. Val Hoyle was first elected to Congress in 2022, taking the seat previously held by the retiring Rep. Peter DeFazio (D). She previously served in Oregon state government, as Labor Commissioner and Majority leader of the Oregon House of Representatives, as well as in the bicycle industry for 25 years.
Despite her short time in Congress, Rep. Hoyle has been active on Council issues. She cosponsored legislation restricting the first use of nuclear weapons, ensuring a human is always in the loop for nuclear launch decisions and reclaiming Congress’s war powers. She also had a perfect voting record on Council issues last year, including votes to decrease funding for unnecessary nuclear weapons programs.
Mondaire Jones was elected in 2020 with Council support. He was the first openly gay, Black person ever elected to Congress and served as part of the most productive Congress in modern American history. Unfortunately, redistricting forced Jones to run in a new and unfamiliar district which likely cost him his reelection. In 2024, he is running in a district that is largely the one he won in 2020. We are excited to support him again.
Jones is a passionate advocate for a more just foreign policy. He supports a more responsible defense budget, reinvesting in the State Department and a diplomacy-first approach to U.S. foreign policy. On the Council’s issues, Jones had an excellent voting record in Congress.
Both Rep. Val Hoyle and Mondaire Jones are key pieces to bringing about leadership change in the House of Representatives and a more productive Congress. Join us in supporting them by donating generously to their campaigns!
