In 2018, Katie Porter defeated a two-term incumbent 52–48% as Orange County, California, swung heavily from its Republican moorings to the Democrats. She was the first Democrat to represent California’s 45th district.

While she won more easily in 2020, redistricting has led her to seek reelection in the newly redrawn 47th district. This competitive coastal Orange County district, which still includes her hometown of Irvine, contains just over 40% of her current constituency and keeps her on the DCCC frontline list.

Before heading to Congress, she was a consumer protection attorney, spending nearly 20 years fighting powerful interests and Wall Street banks on behalf of consumers and families.

Congresswoman Porter has been a stalwart advocate for our issues, voting to pause development of the new intercontinental ballistic missile, to prohibit military action against Iran without congressional authorization, and reverse wasteful increases to the Pentagon budget.

Using her positions on the committees on Natural Resources and Oversight and Reform, Rep. Porter has gained notice for her pointed questioning of officials during congressional hearings. Recently, she has been focused on investigating waste, fraud and abuse in the nuclear weapons complex and seeking justice and accountability for those affected by the legacy of U.S. nuclear testing in the Marshall Islands.
