U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has dedicated his career to fighting for the important issues affecting Rhode Island and our country: protecting our environment and natural resources, taking on big special interests, safeguarding justice, championing health care reform, advocating for the middle class, and taking action to create well-paying jobs for hard-working Americans.

Elected to the Senate in 2006, Whitehouse has emerged as one of the nation's strongest voices for protecting our environment and natural resources from climate change. As a member of the Senate's Environment and Public Works Committee, Whitehouse has delivered more than 285 speeches urging his colleagues to wake up to the devastating effects climate change will have on our planet if left unchecked. And as Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, Whitehouse has been an outspoken voice on fighting for budget priorities that will make life better for American families.

On the Judiciary Committee, Whitehouse has fought fiercely to get dark money out of politics, safeguard the integrity of the Supreme Court, and make government work better for the people it serves. The Senator has gone toe to toe with some of the world's biggest special interests in his pursuit of ridding politics of the corrupting influence of anonymous untraceable money.

Sen. Whitehouse understands the need for arms control negotiations, especially in times of tension. He also opposes new kinds of nuclear weapons and supports the adoption of a "No First Use" policy by the United States.
