Our democracy is under assault. When the Republicans failed at overthrowing a free and fair election, they decided to change the rules and rig the next election. A sweeping voter suppression bill was rammed through the Georgia Legislature in one day and signed into law behind closed doors.
This new law strips the Secretary of State of power and places the State Elections Board under the control of the GOP-dominated legislature, institutionalizing a way for the GOP to overturn an election when they don’t like the results. Let’s be clear – if this law had been in effect in 2020, the Republican insurrectionists would have ignored the voice of the people, overturned the elections and Donald Trump would be our President today.
All is not lost, but only because we won some elections last year. We elected President Biden, Senator Warnock and Senator Ossoff and they will fight for us in Washington.
