Color Of Change

The filibuster must go!

Throughout the Jim Crow Era, racist senators used the filibuster to block bills that would have enabled Black people to vote, provided broader Civil Rights protections, and outlawed racial terror lynchings. It’s a tool that has been used to make America increasingly hostile toward Black people.

Now, the filibuster is used to stop nearly every piece of reform that would benefit everyday Americans including climate action, raising the minimum wage, DC statehood, and bipartisan agreement on universal background checks and immigration reform. It’s time for every representative in the House and Senate to support ending what President Barack Obama has called a “relic” of Jim Crow. Reforming the filibuster is necessary if we want to address any and all of the simultaneous crises we are facing.

If you’re in favor of Color Of Change working to reform the filibuster and make way for legislation we need —like a living wage, cancelling student loan debt, and so much more —can you chip in whatever you can afford to help make this change real? Our average donation this year is just $17.
