Omar Boukili is running for Ward 4 Alderman for two reasons. First, Omar's experience as Somerville’s Senior Policy Advisor, and as Revere's Chief Administrative Officer makes him the best-qualified advocate for everyone who lives, works, and learns in Ward 4. The second is a lot more personal- this is the first opportunity that Omar has to run for office.
A lot of folks who have worked with Omar over the last 7 years in Somerville and Revere don’t know this, but he only got his American citizenship in March of 2015. Omar sees this campaign as an opportunity to serve in an even more public capacity as someone who loves this neighborhood and loves this city, and understands exactly how much this country has to offer.

Anew ordinance went into effect in the City of Somerville in January 2017 which affects the ability of contributors to candidates for municipal office to obtain City contracts or grants. It disqualifies individuals from obtaining certain contracts, permits, financial assistance or real estate if they, their spouses, or children contribute more than $500 to a candidate for elective office of Somerville during either the year of application for the contract, permit or assistance or the year prior to filing. Similarly, it disqualifies legal entities of all types from obtaining certain contracts, permits, financial assistance or real estate if their principals, those persons owning more than 10% of the entity and their spouses or children, from performing the functions of senior officers, directors, members or managers have contributed more than $500 to such a candidate in such a time frame.
Contributors to the Boukili Committee and those considering contributing should be aware of these potential consequences of their support and should seek legal counsel if approaching the $500 disqualification threshold.
