Last Saturday I pulled on my well-worn Moms Demand Action t-shirt and joined my fellow Moms and marched in the Frankfort Avenue Easter Parade. As always, we heard so many cheers and applause as our Moms marched by. It reaffirms my believe that gun violence prevention is a non-partisan issue. I know that we will not stop all firearm deaths in our country, but I do know that we can do so much better. We must do better, our kids are counting on us.
Right now, KY Mothers and Others are gearing up for one of our biggest events of the year. National Gun Violence Awareness Day is June 2nd. Last year more than 500 influencers, corporations, non-profit partner organizations, elected officials, iconic landmarks and hundreds of thousands of Americans participated in the second annual National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Wear Orange was inspired by friends of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year old Chicago high school student killed by gunfire, who decided to honor her life by wearing orange--the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others.
We are hoping to make our KY Wear Orange events even bigger than last year, but we need your help. I've set a personal goal of $1000 to help with this event and all of the other programs Moms conducts, from safe gun storage information to survivor support programs. Will you join me in the fight against gun violence with a tax deductible gift today?
Thank you in advance for your support. You not only have my heartfelt gratitude, but the gratitude of Moms and survivors everywhere.
