Please support Jewelyn Cosgrove for Alexandria City School Board

My name is Jewelyn Cosgrove and I am running for Alexandria City School Board in District B.

I have a vested interest in Alexandria Public Schools. My husband Greg and I have a wonderful toddler, Adeline, "Addy" who will be a Polk Elementary student in just a few years, and we're a growing family. We moved here to have a few kids, establish our lives, and join a rich and diverse community that embraces the values we want our children to see and be in the world. I am a working mother and take the long view on investing in my daughter and children in Alexandria. We all deserve advocates - advocates who listen to vested parties, adjust as information and debates evolve, and lobby tirelessly for good policy.

We need effective advocates and communicators on the School Board to sell the City Council and the Public not just on the importance of a good education system, but on the community value of a fully-funded, fully-operational, and future-focused education system in our city. That's what I see as the role of a School Board member. Yes, my responsibility would be to work with the Superintendent on an appropriate budget, consider resource constraints, and establish broad based policies to improve our schools, but the job is also to be a vocal, clear, and effective advocate for the resources and policies our schools need to achieve sustained success.
