The United States has long suffered from a system that over-polices, over-incarcerates, and allows for state-sponsored brutalization of innocent people — largely people of color. These candidates are promising to enact much-needed reforms and are either running against incumbents who have only perpetuated the terror being inflicted on people or are running against challengers who want to take the country backward.
