Crooked Media

PRIDE OR ELSE

This year Crooked Media’s Pride fund is supporting three incredible organizations that provide community building, gender affirming, and life saving resources to the queer and transgender community.

Trans Lifeline connects trans people to the community support and resources they need to survive and thrive. Donations to Trans Lifeline support their peer support and crisis hotline, their microgrants program that provides direct material support to trans people for things like changing their name, and their advocacy work. In 2022 and 2023, an unprecedented onslaught of anti-trans bills were introduced across the U.S—the lion’s share of these policies specifically target trans youth & their families. The fight against these bills is ongoing but the impact on the trans community has been immediate—and that’s not a coincidence. Anti-trans lawmakers want trans kids to feel isolated; they want to overwhelm the trans community with upsetting news items, and they want to make this as psychologically difficult as possible.

Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT), is an organization dedicated to furthering gender-diverse equality in Texas. They work to accomplish this through education and networking in both public and private forums. Through their efforts, they strive to halt discrimination through social, legislative, and corporate education through a racial justice lens and intersectional approach. TENT urges people to focus on the right to a person’s bodily autonomy. Health care access is being attacked in Texas, regardless if you identify as trans, gender expansive, or cisgender. Texas is the state that has allowed vigilantism to occur if it is reporting on your neighbor of supporting their trans youth or if you think your neighbor has had an abortion. Over the past 16 months, state leaders have bullying doctors, health clinics, and hospitals into stopping care for people seeking abortions and now for trans youth and their families seeking trans healthcare. Texas state leaders need to stop bullying trans kids.

Equality Florida is the largest civil rights organization dedicated to securing full equality for Florida’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community. Through education, grassroots organizing, coalition building, and lobbying, they are changing Florida so that no one suffers harassment or discrimination on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity. What is happening in Florida is not unique or isolated to Florida. They are simply a testing ground for anti-LGBTQ attacks sweeping the country. The aim is to use LGBTQ people, especially kids, as political lightning rods to juice the careers of anti-LGBTQ politicians. It is imperative that we protect students in Florida and send a message nationally that this is not the future we want for young people.

So join Crooked Media in celebrating Pride 2022 with all the wrath you’ve got.
