Democratic Action

Exclusive DGA Strategy Memo

Paul Begala here, and I'm breaking down what you need to know in six of the DGA's races this November:

  • Arizona: In 2022, Gov. Katie Hobbs won by just 17,117 votes in one of the closest races in the country. Over the last 3 years, she’s worked across the aisle to deliver for working families, and her re-election this November will be close, but it’s crucial if we want to continue the fight for progress in the Copper State.
  • Georgia: With Republican Gov. Brian Kemp retiring after two terms, we’re looking to elect a Democratic governor in the Peach State for the first time in nearly 30 years.
  • Iowa: Retiring GOP Gov. Kim Reynolds is one of the most unpopular in the country. In a state that voted for Barack Obama twice, Democrats last won the governorship here 20 years ago, and the DGA is ready to break that streak in the Hawkeye State.
  • Michigan: After two terms, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer successfully created thousands of good-paying jobs and signed the largest infrastructure plan in state history. The DGA is fighting tooth and nail to protect this state from the extreme, far-right Republican field.
  • Nevada: GOP Gov. Joe Lombardo barely won in 2022 and has spent his term backing an increasingly unpopular Trump agenda. There’s a real chance to flip the state blue and elect a strong Democratic governor.
  • Wisconsin: Retiring Gov. Tony Evers championed policies that put Wisconsinites first and reversed a decade of extreme gerrymandering. We can hold our blue firewall and elect a strong new Democratic governor to build on his progress.

I don’t want to wake up on November 4th with any regrets – about these states or any of the 30 others the DGA is competing in this year. So if you’re with me and ready to do what you can, will you chip in right now to elect and re-elect Dem govs? This moment is so important, top Democrats are DOUBLING donations up to the DGA’s $100,000 goal – but only until midnight tomorrow.

Thanks for stepping up – it means a lot.

– Paul
