Darializa Avila Chevalier is a Justice Democrat running in NY-13 (uptown and the Bronx, map). She is a Muslim Afro-Dominican renter and immigration advocate: her campaign is centered on housing for all, abolishing ICE, and ending childhood poverty to make NY-13 more affordable.
Darializa is running to unseat Rep. Adriano Espaillat, a do-nothing Democrat. His biggest donors are AIPAC, Columbia, and real estate. She, on the other hand, is not accepting a dime of corporate PAC money.
Darializa has organized Black and brown communities since she was 16. At Families for Freedom, she worked to get immigrants out of detention. As an investigator at Neighborhood Defenders, a public defenders office in Harlem, she fights to keep her neighbors out of the criminal justice system. She has been an unapologetic advocate for a free Palestine for decades, supported Columbia’s student encampment last year and fought for the release of her friend, Mahmoud Khalil.
