My response to Bergman

Yesterday, Rep. Jack Bergman made wildly exaggerated claims on the House Floor about 'gotaways' at the border, stating that all one million unapprehended crossers were potential "terrorists, cartel members, felons, and drug traffickers."

I unequivocally support border security, but facts matter, and Bergman is lying.

Based on the GOP's own Homeland Security data, out of 2.4 million encounters at the Southwest border in FY 2023, 169 appeared on terrorist watchlists, or 0.007%—a ratio likely similar to that of the 'gotaways'.

The crime rate for undocumented immigrants is less than 1%, just as it is for citizens. My opponent's claim of a potential 100% of one million people is baseless.

Rep. Jack Bergman is purposefully denying solutions to the border crisis because border chaos is better for GOP elections.
