Ward 3 Democrats Virginia Fundraiser

Goal thermometer

The Ward 3 Democrats are having a fundraiser for four progressive candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates (its state legislature).

WHERE: Coppi's, 3321 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008 (near Cleveland Park metro)

WHEN: May 30, 2017. Doors at 6:30pm, event starts at 7, ends at 9.

HOW MUCH: A minimum donation of $25 is requested. Donations will be evenly divided among the candidates. We prefer credit cards because they make it easy to split up the money, but if you wish to pay by check, please make out four checks, one to each candidate.

This race is in November 2017 – yes, 2017! In all of these districts, the GOP won in 2015, but Hillary won in 2016.

This race has national implications. If the GOP controls 34 state legislatures, they can hold a constitutional convention and rewrite the Constitution to embed their worst ideas into the very fabric of our nation. Currently they control 32 state legislatures, including Virginia. Tipping Virginia blue is essential to holding the line.

This is where YOU come in.

Please sign up and donate ahead of time. Donations will also be taken at the door by check or credit card.

Born in North Carolina, Lee was raised in a military family and traveled the country during his father’s service in the Navy and Coast Guard. His family has served in all five branches of the United States military. He moved to Virginia in 2011 after five years in the Marines, during which he worked in a Special Operations-capable support unit and completed tours in the Middle East and the Mediterranean. His unit was one of the first to respond in Haiti after the earthquake in 2010. He now lives in Manassas, works as an IT specialist, and serves on the Manassas City Democratic Committee. His campaign focuses on the issues of affordable housing, worker protection, and economic justice. His campaign website is here: http://carterforva.com/

Donte Tanner is a husband, Air Force veteran, and a small business owner here in Northern Virginia. Donte grew up in a family dedicated to public service. His dad served in the Navy, and later in the police force alongside Donte’s mom. His parent’s dedication to serving their country and community inspired Donte to do the same. A product of Newport News public schools, Donte was accepted into the United States Air Force Academy in 1997. Donte rose through the ranks and became an Air Force Captain at the age of 25, where he served for four years, leading a team working on Space and Missile systems. During this time, Donte worked to make the military more efficient by delivering projects on time and under budget. After leaving the Air Force, Donte felt a responsibility to continue to serve his country as a private citizen. For the past decade, Donte has worked as a government contractor. Wendy Gooditis and her family have called Clarke County home for almost twenty years. She’s been an active member of our education and equestrian communities, and, like many of us, finds herself galvanized into action by the destructive politics coming out of Washington.

Now a real estate agent who works with people every day to help them attain their goals of home-ownership, Wendy worked in Information Technology before homeschooling the daughter and son whom she and her husband of 24 years, Chris, raised here in Clarke County.

The same values which prompted Wendy to earn her Master’s of Education at Shenandoah University, teach her own kids, and advocate for stronger public education will make her a strong voice for the families of the 10th District. She’ll fight to protect our public schools, our environment, and our human rights, and will fight to ensure access to affordable healthcare for all – including for those with mental health issues. David is a retired Navy veteran and 17-year resident of Ashburn. While in the Navy, CDR Reid was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, and the Director of Central Intelligence Meritorious Unit Citation.

In addition to his military background he also has 30 years experience in strategic management, banking, global telecommunications and the defense industry. In 2014, he founded his own small business, Rockbridge Consulting, which specializes in studies and analysis.

He is focused on finding bipartisan solutions to address transportation, education, college affordability and public safety issues. Supports common sense gun safety legislation to reduce preventable gun violence. His campaign website is http://www.reidfordelegate.com.
