Which is why today, the last day to register to vote in Texas, Donuts + Democracy is holding one of our biggest events yet: a 15-hour campus voter registration marathon at the University of Texas at Austin.

It’s BIG–we are in Texas, after all! We’re bringing our signature heart-shaped sunglasses and “Hot People Vote” tees, pizza, and of course, tons of donuts and everything else we need to register thousands of young people to vote.

It’s hard to vote in Texas, and getting harder. Young voters need to overcome everyday obstacles like lack of transportation or a permanent address on top of systemic obstacles: the closure of campus polling locations and ballot mail drop boxes, the inability to vote by mail except under very specific circumstances, and the fact that student IDs can’t be used for voting.

Another obstacle: Texas is one of just eight states that lack a universal online voter registration system, though Texans with a driver’s license can register through an online portal. But it turns out even that system is seriously flawed.

Last month, the Texas Tribune reported that a software glitch failed to forward those portal submissions to relevant counties, creating a backlog of over 200,000 voter registration submissions and updates dating back to October 2025. Now Texas counties are in a mad rush to process thousands of updates before early voting starts.

This is what young voters in Texas are up against. That’s why we’re going all gas, no brakes to register as many young Texans as possible before the end of the day Monday. THIS IS OUR LAST CHANCE to register this HUGE group to elect Democrats.
