The Democracy Protection Fund (“DPF”) is a 501(c)(4) entity, organized to help raise funds to support litigation and advocacy to address threats to our democratic voting systems with a specific focus on areas with the most urgent need. (We have an affiliated 501(c)(3) entity as well). DPF supports the political litigation team at Perkins Coie, led by veteran voting rights litigators Kevin Hamilton and John Devaney, to advance a proactive legal strategy. With a bench of more than 1,200 lawyers and 20 domestic offices, few law firms in the country can match the sheer firepower, trial experience and political law expertise offered by our voting rights team. The Perkins political law team includes several Fellows in the American College of Trial Lawyers and numerous lawyers ranked by Chambers as among the very best in the country.
Our team is involved in on-going voting rights and election-related litigation in courts across the country, including Arizona, Wisconsin, Montana, Nevada, Kansas, Washington, Delaware, New Hampshire, and Arkansas. With right-wing litigation dramatically expanding, our focus is on identifying and challenging more systemic threats to voting and the basic machinery of our democracy, with a particular emphasis on states with the most urgent needs and biggest impact. With the critical 2024 election rapidly approaching, immediate funding is essential to help protect our voting systems and democratic processes. Unfortunately, neither the national nor state parties – nor the candidates themselves – have the funding nor ability to address these widescale challenges to our electoral systems. It’s this void that the right wing seeks to, and has, exploited; it’s this void that we are trying to address. We would love to have your support.
