Support Brittany Pettersen and Democracy For America

Brittany Petterson was born in Colorado and lived in Jefferson County nearly her entire life. She came from a working-class family — her dad was a construction contractor and her mom was a hairdresser. Her mother injured her back and was prescribed dangerous amounts of opioids – leading to an addiction to prescription pills, alcohol, and, ultimately, heroin. Brittany was just six-years-old when this happened.

Even though Brittany faced significant challenges at home, she had access to great public schools and teachers. She went on to became the first in her family to graduate from both high school and college. She then served in the Colorado legislature for ten years.

As a Colorado legislator, Brittany shepherded historic investments in public schools and worked across the aisle to get things done for Colorado’s working families. She also took her experience fighting to save her mom’s life in a broken behavioral health system to ensure others who are struggling with a substance use disorder or a mental health issues have access to the care they need.

Brittany's running for Congress because opportunities that were available to her when she was growing up - the Democratic values that supported investments in public schools, working families, communities of color - are what she will continue to fight for if elected.
