In his book Government Gangsters, Patel calls for purging the civil service, eliminating independence in federal agencies, and granting unchecked power to presidents. This isn’t hypothetical. Patel has already acted as Trump’s enforcer, undermining national security to protect Trump’s interests. Imagine the damage he could do with control over the FBI.
If confirmed, Patel will remake the FBI in Trump’s image -- targeting political opponents, shielding allies, and eroding trust in law enforcement. The FBI must remain impartial and committed to the Constitution, not a tool for authoritarian ambitions.
This is a moment of reckoning for democracy. We cannot let Trump’s vision of a weaponized government become reality.
