Our issues are fairly simple Healthcare, Jobs, and Education. These are not inherently stand-alone issues they are all interconnected. Jobs require a healthy, trained, and educated workforce. Healthcare can not be contingent upon a job. A quality and equivalent healthcare system is fundamental to any quality of life. The current healthcare system not only needs to be expanded but restructured. The move to regional health campuses has led to the closure of rural medical centers depriving many Indiana families of necessary immediate care services, preventive care, maternal and prenatal care.

16% of Indiana students do not graduate from high school. Of those that do, 31% do not go on to College. This is a large demographic of Hoosiers that have long been overlooked. This is the group that will historically work in all sectors of infrastructure - they will be the carpenters, painter, plumbers, masons, pavers, fabricators, construction, utility workers, and more. And that will make up the bulk of Union members.

Education needs to be addressing the needs of this segment of our population through the development and implementation of vocation/journeyman/apprenticeship programs as a part of the high school curriculum in the form of Vocational Education or the creation of Vocational High Schools. This could decrease the number of high school dropouts and set the stage for a successful career and quality of life.

Here in Indiana, we have the Right-to-Work legislation, which needs to be revoked; and the repeal of the Common Construction Wage Act (the Prevailing Wage Law of Indiana) needs to be countermanded and the Act fully reinstated and enforced.
