An overwhelming majority of Americans want new safety measures to reduce gun violence. But Congress is paralyzed because the Republican Party is wholly owned by the NRA.
The NRA has spent decades dismantling gun laws and flooding the country with firearms. They've conditioned millions of Americans to accept mass shootings as a regular part of life. They've so completely dominated the debate on gun violence that armed teachers and bulletproof backpacks are discussed as "solutions" to school gun violence.
