Donate now to help Virginia Democrats win two huge recounts!

Goal thermometer

There's no sugarcoating it: Virginia Democrats had a rough night on Nov. 2. But the election is not over yet.

Almost everyone's been assuming that Republicans won the state House of Delegates. But two races for seats that Democrats are so close that they're going to automatic recounts. And if the outcome changes in both, then the two parties would end up in a 50-50 tie—meaning there would be a power-sharing agreement instead of unfettered Republican control.

That would be a huge development, needless to say, especially since Democrats only control the state Senate by a single seat. The more roadblocks we can throw up against the GOP's extremist agenda, the better.

And want to know something amazing? Vote-counters already caught one error that cut the gap in one race by half. There could be other uncorrected errors out there. Only a recount can tell us for sure.

The two Democrats who need our help right now are:

  • Alex Askew in District 85 (Virginia Beach), who trails by 127 votes
  • Martha Mugler in District 91 (Hampton Roads), who trails by 94 votes

The House campaign arm of the Virginia Democratic Party is handling both recounts, so Askew and Mugler have asked supporters to donate to them.
