Donate now to end the New Hampshire GOP's majority in the state House!

After a fresh round of GOP gerrymandering and the supposed red wave, the New Hampshire House was never supposed to be this close. But a funny thing happened: In spite of everything, Democrats flipped a dozen seats last year to whittle the GOP's majority down to the smallest in state history.

Now, a vulnerable Republican seat has become vacant—and that means Democrats can strip away that GOP's majority and force the chamber into an exact tie. That's why Daily Kos is proudly endorsing progressive stalwart Hal Rafter in the Sept. 19 special election for Rockingham County's 1st District.

Rafter is a stalwart progressive who fell just 25 votes short of winning this swingy seat last year. His opponent, by contrast, is just flat-out disturbing. Jim Guzofski has compared abortions to "blood sacrifices"; thinks that the COVID vaccine actually causes the virus; and believes that being gay is "against nature" because "you never see two male dogs going at it and having kids."

If Rafter wins, the New Hampshire House would have an exact tie between the parties, giving Democrats the opportunity to block terrible Republican legislation, including voting restrictions. We can't give them any opportunity to rig the vote in this perennial swing state heading into 2024.
