Believe it or not, there are still some Democratic elected officials, representing some very blue turf, who oppose abortion rights. This is our chance to give one notorious offender the heave-ho.

That's why Daily Kos is proudly endorsing former Virginia Del. Lashrecse Aird, who is running to unseat anti-choice state Sen. Joe Morrissey in the June 20 Democratic primary for the redrawn 13th District in the Richmond area.

Morrissey doesn't just describe himself as "pro-life." He's also an infamous scumbag who went to jail after he was convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old receptionist at his law firm.

Aird could not be more different. She's been a tireless champion of progressive causes, and above all else, she's a steadfast backer of abortion rights.

Virginia Republicans are eager to restrict abortion—Gov. Glenn Youngkin supports a 15-week ban—and the only thing standing in their way is the Democrats' narrow edge in the state Senate. We need to pad that majority now, because every seat in the legislature will be up in November, and there's no telling what will happen then.
