Just now, Colorado Republicans passed HB-1075--legislation that will permanently cut K-12 funding by $1 billion. What this means is that in 2013 and 2014, Colorado classrooms are going to see $163 million less; all this after education has taken a $1 billion hit during the Great Recession to keep our budget balanced.
The Republicans aren't responding to budget constraints. This is not an accident. Slashing education funding is a policy goal of the GOP leadership. This fiscally unnecessary and economically disastrous legislation was passed as part of the Republican leadership's effort to pander to the extreme Tea Party ideologues.
I'm furious. I hope you are too. We are going to fix this by changing the leadership in the State House to one of fiscal responsibility who believe that every Colorado child needs a good education in order to compete in a global economy.
The choice is clear: making investments in our children's future, or wrecking our schools in the name of partisan ideology.
Help me do that. Help me by working to elect a Democratic majority in the Colorado State House.
