DMV Iftar: Building New Futures

Reflections on 25 years of the War on Terror: Resistance and Powerbuilding

Friday Feb 27th, 5:30-8:30pm

Dolan Uyghur, Falls Church

2026 marks two anniversary years: 25 years of the War on Terror, and 250 years since the founding of the US. As our communities face the legacies of the War on Terror – Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian racism, racial capitalism, genocide, and targeting by ICE, we ask - what does Muslim powerbuilding look like in this moment?

What are the ways we create home and belonging, deepen roots and solidarity with one another, and fight for justice and freedom here?

Join us for an iftar reflecting on not just the 25 years of the War on Terror, but a space to think through 25 years of resistance and powerbuilding within our communities.

Shape and craft the next 25 years in visions of liberation.

Funds raised at this iftar will support our local work, through these categories and beyond:

  • Defending our Futures
  • Community Know Your Rights material in 16+ languages, including material created to respond to rapid immigration changes, such as asylum bans
  • Powerbuilding for Just Futures
  • From community organizing, base-building, advocacy, and ecosystem-building, invest in our community and movement’s infrastructure to build and hold power. Last year we conducted direct outreach to hundreds of community members, held a resource fair and movement assembly and more.
  • Capital for Just Futures
  • Our communities have faced significant economic divestment over the past 25 plus years. The birth of American racial capitalism has been accompanied by the creation of structures of racism and dehumanization that profit off the extraction from communities, resources and land.
  • Invest in our community’s ability to build capital power, from finding critical funds and capital to seed new businesses, organizations, to charting stronger economic futures for our communities.

Let's make some collective investments as a community for the next 25 years.

Let’s make new worlds possible together – will you join us to break fast and fund liberatory futures?
