It's pride month again! Get your rainbows out, support your LGBTQ+ friends, and thank MajorBowman for inventing being gay. Also, remember to tag Arcticblast with something mean (not because he's gay, but because he's Arcticblast).
It's also the time to remember the struggles LGBTQ+ people face, though, and some of those hit hardest are transgender/non-binary/gender non-conforming/intersex youth. They are at a very important and very vulnerable stage in their lives, and often do not receive the support they need, especially in the case of those with unaccepting families. They can experience everything from bullying to "conversion therapy" to straight up being disowned. In the worst cases they can even be driven to death, before reaching the freedom that adulthood can help bring. This is especially true in recent years with the rise of transphobic rhetoric, legislation, and hate crimes.
As everyone reading this will know, the Smogon Doubles community prides (haha pun) itself on being accepting to queer people, including the many community members who are themselves. This year we'd like to show our solidarity by holding a community fundraiser throughout pride month for charity.
The Trans Youth Equality Foundation is one charity which handles this crucial topic, offering youth camps, workshops for schools, resources for youth, parents, and teachers, and more. You can find out more about them at https://www.transyouthequality.org/our-mission.
