Friend,
When I was sworn in this January, they didn’t expect me to make waves in Jefferson City.
But I didn’t come to the Capitol to sit quietly. I came to work to fight for the people who sent me here.
Since day one, I’ve spoken out against schemes to dismantle public education, protected teachers and students, stood firm for reproductive freedom, and called out dangerous legislation that strips women of their healthcare privacy. I’ve defended our communities from policies that put profits over people.
And I didn’t stop there.
I hosted the first-ever Glory of Missouri Awards in the Ferguson-Florissant School District to uplift young leaders. I organized a Nonprofit Town Hall with Rep. Tonya Rush to strengthen grassroots power. I celebrated our civic engagement with a Voter Appreciation Picnic, connected youth with jobs through a Trades Career Fair, and published an op-ed in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch to make our voices heard.
But they’re paying attention and not in a good way. The far-right is targeting our movement. They’re hoping to wear me down, drown us out, and send someone who’ll play it safe.
I’m running for reelection because I’m not done yet.
I’m also launching a Student Advisory Council called D68Voices, hosting a Step Up Fest to help our neighbors build better financial futures, and seeking sponsors for the upcoming Black Girl Golden Ticket Awards Show, a celebration of brilliance and Black girl magic.
Can you chip in $10 or more today to keep our momentum strong?
Your support keeps me fighting for equity, justice, and opportunity.
Let’s show them what bold, community-rooted leadership looks like in Missouri.
In the fight,
Dr. Kem Smith
State Representative, District 68
