Carolyn Bourdeaux - Detailed summary


Carolyn Bourdeaux is the current Representative for GA's 7th congressional district.


Previously, Carolyn Bourdeaux was a Professor and public policy expert who has contributed to policy development as well as housing and access to various programs for those in need, and improvement of several communities within the GA-07 district, served the state Budget office in non-partisan role, and taken leadership role in bringing her learnings to teach the youth for future similar leadership.


Carolyn Bourdeaux grew up in Roanoke VA, a kid of teachers. She earned her Bachelors from Yale Univ and Masters in Public Administration fro Univ of Southern California, and PhD in Public Administration with focus on public finance from Syracuse University Maxwell School of Public Policy.


Carolyn and her husband Jeff moved to Suwanee GA (in GA-07) to raise their kids and to bring parents to move back in with them; her parents have since passed away. Her aging parents' health issues and related costs were eye openers for Carolyn, as also early in life experience of seeing her father's unsuccessful attempt at starting a new business. She is determined to improve healthcare and help small businesses.


In GA, Carolyn Bourdeaux worked on the Livable Communities Project to revitalize many communities within the GA-07 district. Carolyn also worked on legislation to help expand access to the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program and access to Federally Qualified Health Centers while saving the federal government money.


IN 2003, Carolyn Bourdeaux became a Professor at the Andrew Young School of Public Policy. She took leave 2007-2010, to become the Director of Georgia's Senate Budget and Evaluation Office - a non-partisan role advising the government on balancing fiscal responsibility and compassion. Carolyn Bourdeaux received the Senate's honor commendation for navigating the serious challenges of the Great Recession, with Senate Resolution 1598. Prof. Bourdeux returned to the Andrew Young School and founded the Center for State and Local Finance to teach the next generation about responsible and compassionate public policy.


Carolyn and Jeff live in Suwanee GA in GA-07 district. Carolyn is a strong progressive Democrat.
