HI-02 is OPEN seat of Rep. Gabbard - she is not running for re-election. We have an opportunity to elect a strong Democratic candidate from Hawai'i to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018.


Kaiali'i "Kai" Kahele is a current representative in the Hawai'i state legislature - in the Hawai'i Senate - representing Hilo.


Kai Kahele is Native Hawaiian, Veteran (18 years in Hawaii's Air National Guard), and Hawaiian Airlines Pilot.


Kai Kahele was appointed state Senator by Gov. Ige to a vacant blue seat, and won (re-)elections with wide margins in 2016 and 2018.


Kai Kahele is a graduate of Hilo High School and Univ of Hawaii at Manoa (BS in Education).


Kai Kahele is a strong Democrat. He, his wife and two young daughters live in Hilo, in HI-02 district.
