NC-01 has been a safe Democratic seat since 1899. It is now being targeted aggressively by the NRCC and is very much a battleground district. Cook Political has rated it a toss-up.
Donald "Don" Davis was born and raised in Snow Hill, North Carolina, where he learned the value of hard work and community at a young age, working in tobacco fields and attending church with his grandmother. Driven by a commitment to service, Don attended the United States Air Force Academy, earning a B.S. in social sciences. He went on to serve his country in uniform for eight years, achieving the rank of captain.
During his military career, Don took on significant responsibilities, including coordinating Air Force One operations at Andrews Air Force Base and supporting families of fallen service members as a mortuary officer. His dedication to leadership and national security continued as an assistant professor of Aerospace Studies at East Carolina University, where he taught and mentored thousands of students.
After his military service, Don returned to his roots in eastern North Carolina and became the youngest Mayor of Snow Hill at just 29 years old. As mayor, he restored confidence in local government by focusing on economic revitalization and infrastructure improvements, such as expanding high-speed internet and repairing roads. His leadership demonstrated a deep commitment to making government work for the people.
In 2008, Don was elected to the North Carolina State Senate, where he served six terms. Throughout his tenure, Don championed the needs of rural communities, advocating for expanded high-speed internet, increased teacher pay, and tax exemptions for military pensions. He played a pivotal role in securing over $215 million in funding for the ECU Brody School of Medicine, enhancing access to quality healthcare in rural North Carolina.
In 2022, Don was elected to the U.S. Congress, representing the community he has always called home—eastern North Carolina. As a Congressman, Don continues to fight for the issues that matter most to his constituents, drawing on his extensive experience as a public servant, educator, and veteran. He lives in Greene County with his wife, Yuvonka, and their three sons, Ryan, Justin, and Kyler.
