Abigail Spanberger has devoted her career to public service, beginning as a federal law enforcement officer and continuing with the CIA, where she served undercover to combat terrorism and safeguard national security. After moving back to Virginia in 2014, she transitioned to the private sector before running for Congress in 2018. She became the first Democrat since 1968, and the first woman ever, to represent Virginia’s 7th Congressional District. Throughout her tenure in Congress, Abigail earned a reputation for bipartisan leadership and principled action.

A proud Virginian, Abigail grew up in Henrico County and attended J.R. Tucker High School’s Spanish immersion program. She holds an MBA from a dual-degree German-American program and is married to Adam Spanberger, with whom she shares three daughters.

Through bipartisan leadership, Abigail has successfully passed legislation to prevent fentanyl overdoses, protect Virginia’s natural resources, and support veterans.

She has led efforts to lower prescription drug costs and strengthen workforce training programs for Virginia’s students.

She has fought for policies to assist veterans and their families and has been a champion of initiatives to safeguard Virginia’s environment and ensure sustainable growth.
