Remembering Arlie Schardt
Arlie W. Schardt left a lasting positive impact on countless individuals throughout his life. His commitment to social justice and environmentalism preceded him -- from covering the Civil Rights Movement with Time magazine to joining the American Civil Liberties Union to impeach Nixon to becoming the beloved Board Chair Emeritus at Friends of the Earth and much more.
Your contribution will go to support the Arlie Schardt Memorial Fellowship Program. Our vision of this program is to create career experience, pathways, and opportunities for Black, Indigenous, People of Color in underrepresented communities who are interested in environmental advocacy.
During his time serving on and leading the Friends of the Earth Board of Directors, Arlie was instrumental in shaping the organization. He was a key force behind tripling the size of the organization and emphasized the importance of social and racial justice in the environmental movement. Arlie was a loving friend and a fierce advocate for change.
