Ebony DeBerry

Help Ebony Help Our Kids and Schools!

Ebony DeBerry (she/her) is running for re-election to the Chicago Board of Education, District 2A.

As one of the first-ever elected school board members, she's been an independent fighting voice for our children, parents, and teachers—and she's not done yet!

In her first term, Ebony fought to keep cuts out of the classroom, pushed for progressive revenue so corporations and billionaires pay their fair share, co-sponsored CPS's Healthy Green Schools resolution, and helped win a requirement that our district's superintendent actually have classroom experience. She's shown up for students and families: In board meetings, in the streets, and everywhere our schools need her.

Now, she's fighting for universal pre-K, mental health support in every school, sustainable staffing so kids keep the trusted adults they rely on, and full, fair funding for every neighborhood school in the system.

Chip in now to help Ebony finish what she started.

Ebony has lived in Rogers Park her whole life, attending Chicago Public Schools as a student at Gale Elementary and Sullivan High School, and later deciding to teach in the district. She has experience managing youth programming at Howard Area Community Center, being a restorative healing conversations practitioner, and as a community organizer with ONE Northside. As an organizer, she has worked alongside the community on several successful campaigns, banning the box for felony convictions in the state of Illinois and keeping Gale Elementary open during a round of Chicago school closures as some of her proudest achievements. With the parent mentor program as a launch pad, she is devoted to the development and leadership capacity of women of color in her community and has worked closely with them in order to endorse and elect younger and more diverse representatives. Ebony graduated from Central State University with a degree in education, then received her master's of science in communication from Northwestern University. In her spare time, Ebony enjoys spending time with friends and family, thrifting, traveling, and reading.
