El Batey Goes To Puerto Rico 2025

I am writing to share an incredible opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of Puerto Rican youth from our community in Buffalo. Many of these remarkable young individuals got to travel to Puerto rico thanks to the generous doantions from our community. Some of them have not ever been to Puerto Rico and for some who left Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, this cultural trip had such an incredible impact that we simply have to do it again. We want to have El Batey students return, some join for the first time. It truly is a journey back to our homeland in so many ways for many of our youth.

This journey aims to bridge the gap between their present lives and their cultural origins, allowing them to rediscover, embrace, and celebrate their Puerto Rican heritage. It's an opportunity for these youth to rekindle connections severed by dispalcemnet. Allowing them to immerse themselves in their native culture, making it extra specials for students who are or want to become ambassadors their traditions through El Batey.

One of the highlights of this trip is that El Batey youth will participate in one of Puerto Rico's largest folkloric music events “Encuentro de Tambores” 14th anniversary. Our youth will engage as ambassadors of Buffalo, joining the diaspora delegation representing us in Puerto Rico. At this momentous event, they'll actively participate as percussionists, dancers and singers alongside Bomba practitioners from both the island and the diaspora, showcasing their talents. Their presence will symbolize the cultural wealth and knowledge we have been fostering here in our community, strengthening cross-cultural connections and celebrating the spirit of our heritage and traditions in a truly transformative manner with this once in a lifetime opportunity.

This experience promises to not expand their knowledge as cultural ambassadors, grow artistically and pour a sense of pride that no other experience can provide. Bringing back newfound knowledge and the experiences to enrich the fabric of our community here in Buffalo.

We are seeking your support to make this transformative journey possible once again. As we embark in our fundraising efforts to bring Puerto rican youth on a journey back to Puerto rRico for the second time.

Your sponsorship will directly contribute to covering travel expenses, accommodations, and participation fees, ensuring that these youth can seize this life-changing opportunity.

Your generosity will allow El Batey to cover expenses for the youth to experience cultural education inPuerto rico, attending workshops and seminars, preparing to participate as folk artist in one of the largest cultural events in Puerto Rico. Your support will cover things as food, lodging and transportation among other things. We hope you will join us in supporting the future leaders who will carry the task of being cultural bearers and tradition keepers of our Puerto Rican heritage.
