Being an effective legislator means listening to every witness and considering the arguments in committee hearings, stopping bills that would do harm, and strengthening good ones with smart amendments. I regularly partner with colleagues to move their best ideas forward.
I have been lucky to have the support of our community to lead on the issues other representatives won't touch, standing up for the LGBTQ+ community, sex workers, and Rhode Islanders experiencing homelessness. I helped repeal Rhode Island's sodomy law, helped pass the Healthcare Provider Shield Act defending doctors who provide gender-affirming and reproductive care, and authored last year's sex worker immunity law.
This session I’m fighting for expanded expungement, fairer rent laws, and the Compassionate Care Act for the terminally ill. Also it is a top priority of mine to advocate for higher Medicaid reimbursement rates in the state budget to raise healthcare provider wages, and address our primary care crisis.
There is still so much more work to do for our community.
