Education Is Being Tested—And So Is Our Democracy

Dear Friend,

Education is the cornerstone of our democracy, and right now, it’s being tested.

We are living in a time where classrooms have become battlegrounds. Where educators are being stretched beyond capacity. Where decisions about what our children can learn, who they can become, and how they see themselves in the world are being debated in ways that feel deeply personal.

And what’s at stake couldn’t be more real.

I’ve spent my life doing this work, not from the sidelines, but in the trenches. I’ve served on the State Board of Education, helping shape policy that impacts millions of students. I’ve led efforts in community and economic development, working to create real opportunities for families who have too often been overlooked. I’ve secured resources to support youth through substance abuse prevention and mentorship programs. I’ve stood with students, parents, and educators, not just when it was easy, but when it mattered most.

Because for me, this has never been political. It’s personal.

And I understand, because I’ve been there.

I know what it feels like to carry responsibility at a young age, to navigate systems that weren’t built with you in mind, and to push forward anyway. I’ve walked alongside families trying to hold it all together. I’ve seen the quiet strength of parents who sacrifice everything for their children, and the resilience of students who refuse to give up, even when the odds are stacked against them.

That’s what drives me.

I think about the students who don’t feel seen.

The families who are doing everything right and still struggling to navigate the system.

The educators who show up every day, despite the challenges, because they believe in our children.

They are the reason I’m running for re-election to the State Board of Education.

But in today’s political climate, we can’t afford to sit back and hope things work out. We need leadership that is grounded, courageous, and committed to protecting the integrity of education, leadership that understands that equity is not a talking point, it’s a responsibility.

I’m asking for your support, not just for a campaign, but for what this moment requires of all of us.

If you believe in protecting opportunities for every child…

If you believe our schools should be places of growth, truth, and possibility…

If you believe we must meet this moment with intention and action…

Please consider making a contribution today.

This is a hard ask, but it’s a necessary one. Because the future of our children, and the strength of our democracy, depends on what we do right now.

If you believe education should be equitable…

If you believe every child deserves a fair shot…

If you believe leadership should reflect service…

I’m asking you to support this campaign with a contribution today.

No amount is too small. Every dollar helps us build momentum, reach more families, and ensure this message is heard across Michigan.

With heart and determination,

~Tiffany D. Tilley

P.S. This moment is asking something of all of us. I’m stepping forward to lead, but I can’t do it without you. I would be honored to have your support.
